Gosh! This June has the best chances to turn into the month with the fewest issues – and I have so many stories to tell and pictures to show! In a brutal finish I will try to publish them all this week.

First, let’s answer last week’s riddle though. As all baby birds are wearing camouflage plumage, it is really difficult to tell them apart. Like most of you, I was totally clueless while Sylvia (and Micki) thought my foundling is a robin. In fact the little bird is a dunnock. When you click on the Wikipedia link you will see that the grown bird is not exactly famous for colourful plumage either.

By the way, should you ever manage to wrestle a bird from your cat’s grip, time is of the essence, even if the bird is unharmed. Cat saliva contains a bacteria that is usually fatal to birds unless the appropriate antibiotic is administered. As Sylvia administered this at once, our little dunnock has survived the critical first 24 hours and is doing fine.

Now to today’s question which will test your eyesight again. The roses at the terrace are particularly beautiful this year but the photo also contains some cats.

Alter Schwede! Dieser Juni hat das Zeug, zum Montag mit den wenigsten Ausgaben zu werden. Dabei habe ich so viele Geschichten zu erzählen und Bilder zu zeigen! In einem brutalen Endspurt will ich versuchen, diese Woche noch alle zu veröffentlichen.

Zunächst aber die Lösung des Rätsels der letzten Woche. Da alle Jungvögel ein Tarnkleid tragen, ist es wirklich schwer sie auseinanderzuhalten. (Wer sich dafür interessiert, bitte hier klicken.) Wie die meisten von euch, hatte ich nicht den Schatten einer Ahnung, während Sylvia (ebenso wie Micki) dachten, dass es sich bei meinem Findling um ein Rotkehlchen handelt. Tatsächlich ist der kleine Vogel eine Heckenbraunelle. Wenn ihr auf den Wikipedia-Link klickt, werdet ihr sehen, dass der Altvogel auch nicht gerade durch ein farbenfohes Federkleid auffällt.

Sollte es euch gelingen, eurer Katze einen Vogel zu entreißen, ist Eile geboten, selbst wenn der Vogel unverletzt ist. Katzenspeichel enthält nämlich ein Bakterium, das für Vögel tödlich ist, wenn nicht umgehend ein entsprechendes Antibiotikum verabreicht wird. Unsere kleine Heckenbraunelle hat die kritischen ersten 24 Stunden übrigens gut überstanden und entwickelt sich prächtig

Nun zur Frage des heutigen Tages, die wieder einmal euer Sehvermögen auf die Probe stellt. Die Rosen an der Terrasse sind dieses Jahr besonders schön, aber auf dem Bild haben sich auch Katzen versteckt.
