Admittedly, Maxine was very difficult to spot (that’s perfect camouflage for you). I have encircled the area in question and enlarged the section. Underneath the evergreens is a favourite place of hers – and it has the advantage of staying dry for a very long time. I think only torrential rain or rain driven by strong north-easterly winds would flood the earth beneath the tall, thick thujas. In winter they are also a favourite hangout for our resident tawny owls. You can hear their hoots at all hours, day and night but so far I have not been able to catch sight of them left alone take a picture. If I succeed you will be the first to know!

Zugegeben, Maxine war sehr schwer zu entdecken (wenn das keine perfekte Tarnung ist). Ich habe die betreffende Stelle eingekreist und den Bereich vergrößert. Das Versteck unter unseren immergrünen Bäumen ist ein Lieblingsplatz von ihr, der auch noch den Vorteil hat, dass er fast immer trocken ist. Ich glaube nur Starkregen oder Regen kombiniert mit heftigem Nord-West-Wind würde die Erde unter den großen, dichten Thujas unter Wasser setzen. Im Winter sind sie übrigens auch ein beliebter Aufenthaltsort für unsere heimischen Waldkäuze. Man kann ständig ihre Rufe hören, Tag und Nacht, aber bisher ist es mir noch nicht gelungen, sie zu Gesicht zu bekommen, geschweige denn ein Foto zu machen.
