What to do when the cat is using the carpets for scratching? After all it is impossible to protect every rug by covering it or by using a deterrent. The easiest solution would be offering an alternative that the cats like even more than any fluffy floor cover. On the other hand you cannot have/don’t want your living space littered with prominent scratching post, boards or trees. I have discovered a wonderful solution that the team likes: cat furniture made out of cardboard. Cardboard scratch pads are nothing new to our household. Remember the London bus? That is a scratch pad in disguise. Another scratch wave is standing in my office. Now I found a supplier that offers the most gorgeous designs, I just have to share it with you. There are styles for every taste in various colours. And if you cannot find one you like you can tell them what you have in mind and they produce it for you. I would not recommend buying one of the big, expensive ones though as cardboard does not last long. After the usual start (the packaging was far more interesting than the content) the team was delighted and immediately took possession of their new scratch furniture (that – naturally – can be used on both sides). Now the rug is just sooo boring!

Was tun, wenn die Katzen den Teppich zum Kratzen benutzen? Man kann schließlich nicht jeden Vorleger, Läufer oder gar die Auslegeware abdecken oder mit einem Abschreckungssystem sichern. Die einfachste Lösung ist natürlich ein alternatives Kratzangebot, das den Katzen noch viel besser gefällt, als der flauschige Fußbodenbelag. Allerdings kann (und will) man auch nicht überall in der Wohnung Kratzbäume, -stämme oder –tonnen herumstehen haben. Ich habe eine wunderschöne Lösung gefunden, die beim Team sehr gut angekommen ist: eine todschicke Kratzwelle. Kratzwellen aus Pappe sind ja nichts Neues in unserem Haushalt. Der rote Bus, den ihr aus diversen Ausgaben kennt, ist beispielsweise nur eine besonders lustig „ummantelte“ Kratzpappe. Eine andere Kratzwelle steht bei mir im Büro. Jetzt habe ich eine Quelle für so wunderschöne Kratzmöbel aus Wellpappe gefunden, dass ich sie unbedingt mit euch teilen möchte: cat-on.de. Da bleiben wirklich keine Wünsche offen, zumal man sogar seine eigenen Vorstellungen realisieren lassen kann. Ich würde allerdings keines von den großen teuren Möbeln kaufen, dafür hält mir Pappe einfach nicht lange genug. Nach den zu erwartenden Anfangsreaktionen (die Verpackung war zunächst interessanter als der Inhalt), waren alle begeistert und haben ihre neue Kratzgelegenheit (die natürlich beidseitig benutzerbar ist) sofort in Besitz genommen. Der Teppich ist ja sooo langweilig!
